Dr Kirsty Abbas

Perinatal Clinical Psychologist

Dr Kirsty Abbas is an experienced Perinatal Clinical Psychologist. She specialises in working with women across the perinatal period, from pre-conception to postpartum. Areas of expertise include pre and postnatal anxiety and low mood, adjustment to parenting, trauma and baby loss. Kirsty is passionate about supporting all new parents with their transition to parenthood and is especially aware of the additional need for support if those early days haven’t gone as planned.  She is aware of the psychological trauma and emotional impact premature birth, medical diagnoses and hospital admissions can have on the baby, parent and family, both in the short and long term.

Kirsty has considerable experience, working across London’s leading hospitals, most recently holding a Consultant role at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Alongside her work with the London Perinatal Clinic, Kirsty holds a strategic role in embedding psychological thinking and trauma informed care across London’s neonatal units.

Kirsty works integratively, primarily using systemic approaches alongside CBT, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), to help parents navigate and enjoy their parenting experiences alongside these challenging times. She has extensive experience of using attachment-based interventions and approaches to help parents to build healthy and secure relationships with their babies.
